Status and prospect on development and utilization of renewable energy in abandoned mines abroad

  • In order to establish a renewable mine energy development and utilization model and management system suitable for China's national conditions, the literature analysis method is used to summarize the various renewable energy utilization technologies and application progress of foreign abandoned mines, including the solar energy, wind energy, thermal energy storage (TES), pumped-storage hydropower (PSH), and compressed air energy storage (CAES). It is believed that the summarized utilization experience of typical projects abroad will benefit the utilization of abandoned mines in our country. The main experience of analyzing the development and utilization of renewable energy in China’s abandoned mines is mainly: complete law system and policies; scientific and reasonable planning and management mechanism; diversified investment and market-oriented operation model; and emphasis on the scientific research investment and technological innovation. Based on the reference to these experiences and in combination with China's energy revolution and supply reform requirements, relevant policy recommendations are put forward. The development and utilization of renewable energy in abandoned mines in China should be combined with the principles such as "typical demonstration and steady promotion should be combined, development and utilization should be compatible with economic development, safety priority and cost-effectiveness should be unified, and long-term and scientific layout should be coordinated". Based on the principle of long-term and scientific layout, the road of intelligent and precise development will be taken, and gradually summarize and form a complete set of standard specifications and management system for the development and utilization of renewable energy in abandoned mines suitable for China’s national conditions.
