Abstract��Under the application of the terraced field soil preparation method to the planting mode, an outdoor investigation and sampling combined with indoor analysis and measurement method was applied to investigate and study the soil basic features of the Mentougou coal rejects dumping ground for the honeysuckle planting and the honeysuckle growing conditions. The results showed that the moisture content of the surface soil on the coal rejects dumping ground was low and there was no salt content and acidification damages in the surface soil. The overall soil nutrient status was in a suitable or less suitable level. The honeysuckle would have a high absorption value of the N and P nutrients. The honeysuckle would grow well, have a high survival rate and a fast growing speed, and could be quickly covered the surface ground. From 2010 to 2011, the species of the honeysuckle for the vegetation was increased from 11 to 17 with additional two woody plants. The vegetation of the ecological community was evolved and replaced quickly. There were over 10 accompanying species of the shrub and herb ecological communities formed initially. The ecological restoration effect was good. The study showed that the application of honeysuckle to the afforestation of the coal rejects dumping ground would be feasible.
